Tomahawk Fully Engraved, Wood Not Yet Finished

Pewter decorations have been poured and the mouthpiece formed.
Now just waiting for the author of this blog to come up with wording for a decorative plaque.

A Perfectly Engraved Tomahawk - First Look

Jud is currently finishing a new endeavor - a highly engraved tomahawk.
When I visited 2 weeks ago, the engraving was just beginning.

This is of course, made in the mode that would have been made on the spot by a local blacksmith/artisan for the fur trade when the factory made trade goods were exhausted.

Striking details include the use of a cast off piece of rifle barrel iron with the rifling still visible in the bowl of the pipe.

Latest 'Po Boy Rifle Finished and Shipping out!

GustaveYoung Style Engraving on the Sheath

Jud has spent the past week embellishing the heavy solid silver tip of the sheath for the Shively style Bowie. The first 5 photos show the nearly finished engraving and Jud at work on it.
The picture from R. L. Wilson's "Steel Canvas" shows a fine example of Gustave Young's style.

The final photo shows the beginnings of the Gold medallion at the top end of the sheath.

Schively Bowie Progress: The Sheath

Jud came by North Pole yesterday (Saturday) and brought the Bowie project along to show work on the sheath.

The .999 pure ingot arrived Thursday just in time for Jud to pick it up. Great things are in store!
