A Finished Hawken Style Rifle by Anonymous

This exceptional Hawken Rifle is now finished. A full length picture will have to await warmer, sunnier days but the essence is shown in the following photographs. The maker wishes to remain anonymous owing to his aversion to "modern rifles" and affinity for flintlock rifles of the Golden Age of American craftsmanship.

The maker allows only that he lives and works in the Delta Junction area of Alaska. Because this is a bench copy/amalgam of two fine original rifles, the makers name appears only engraved on the buttplate which, at the maker's request, will not be shown in this series of photos. This rifle was made expressly for the author and as such is a personal and cherished addition to his collection.

And, in case of doubt, the author of this blog did achieve the rank of Commander (O-5) in the USPHS in the early 1980's, but only in his dreams can he claim a brother named Kit!

First Glimpse at a project: Dormant for 38 Years!

This rifle is nearing completion. It is the culmination and fulfillment of nearly 4 decades of hard and exacting work and waiting - we call it "The Queen Anne" after the period in English History reflecting the esthetic of the early 1700's.

This rifle will enthrall all who lay eyes upon it! Featuring a Jud forged and rifled Damascus barrel, a hand made water proof lock, gold touch hole liner, patent breech and hand chiseled steel finials and details on side plate, buttplate, cock and trigger guard, this is a tour de force in the tradition of the finest English workmanship.
